De-cluttering and Donating

I wish my closet looked like the one pictured above. Unfortunately, it doesn’t though. It looks like this.

My closet (left side)
my closet (right side)

I shouldn’t complain though. You should have seen it before my dad put up shelves and extra hanger bars!

When you don’t have a large closet it is even more important to keep it clean and get rid of any unnecessary items. I like to purge my closet several times a year. Around your birthday it is always nice to do a good clean out. Get rid of the old and make way for the new. So, even though my birthday is just over a month away I thought I would get rid of a few items now. I managed to find a couple of pairs of leggings, a very outdated peasant style skirt that I don’t know why I didn’t get rid of before, a few shirts and of course a few cardigans (I am a cardigan addict!)

If my clothes that I am parting with are casual I like to take them to the drop box by the Loblaws that I go shopping at. If they are more dressy I like to donate them to Dress For Success – a “Non-profit organization that provides interview suits, confidence boosts, and career development to low-income women in over 75 cities worldwide.” (quoted from their website) I used to volunteer in their boutique and they are always in desperate need of some good quality, stylish, work appropriate attire.

Checking this task off my 30 before 30 list (#16) may be an accomplishment but this is just the beginning. I have been looking up tips for helping you truly purge your closet! Now that is going to be a challenge!
