Oh Boy! Sorry everyone for the delay in writing! It been crazy busy the past few weeks preparing for the two shows, working at the store, designing new things for Sovereign Jewellery in Bermuda (I’ve not even told you about this job yet!) and working for my friend, Kate (Marmalade), at the One of a Kind show. After all the go, go go, of this week I am definitely looking forward to the weekend!
But this weekend isn’t just any old weekend. It’s the 8th Annual Girls Christmas Shopping Weekend! GCSW, as we like to call it for short, started way back in 2002 as a simple night on the town for my cousin Magda, my sisters Michelle and Alexis, and myself. Martinis, chit-chat, a walk through Nathan Phillips Square to see the lights and a slumber party on an air mattress on the floor of Michelle’s tiny apartment. Boy have things evolved! Martinis and air mattreses are still involved but we have many more traditions! A day full of Christmas shopping has been added to the roster (though we do sneak a little shopping in for ourselves!) as well as a night on the town, and tree shopping!
Each year we rotate who gets to host this weekend long extravaganza. As tradition stands we kick off the weekend on Friday night with martinis, a home cooked meal and movies. We need to be well rested for shopping the next day! Saturday is spent shopping, shopping and more shopping, and of course eating! In the late afternoon, when we are all tuckered out, we pick out a Christmas tree for the hosts home and decorate it while sipping eggnog and listening to Christmas carols. We also take the time to review our purchases and re-live the excitement of finding something fantastic! (Like Alexis’s Coach boots last year which she got an amazing deal on!) Saturday night we usually go out for dinner and a few beverages. We wind down the weekend on Sunday morning with brunch and maybe a little more shopping!
3 years ago we were very excited to invite our younger cousin Kristin to join us for annual GCSW! Unfortunately, do to university exams (Boooooo), she will be unable to join us this year. We are going to miss you! This year, however, we are excited to have my younger sister Alicia joining us from Halifax! Somehow in the past 8 years she has managed to miss every GCSW! We will have to come up with some sort of initiation for her! [Just kidding Mubs ;)]
I am soooo excited! I will keep you posted on any great finds or deals we come across during our shopping this weekend! I better get started on my Christmas shopping list!
