My head’s in the clouds (and on the beach…)

The beach at Point Pleasant Park. Halifax, Nova Scotia.

People always ask me: “What inspires you?”  There are just so many answers to this question! I am inspired everyday by something new — It could be a poster I see, a TV show I watch, a trip I take, a person riding on the subway (creepy? maybe a little), a magazine I thumb through. For this reason, I often have my head in the clouds (A typical Pisces trait apparently), thinking of the next thing that I can make!

As anyone who knows a little about astrology and zodiac signs know, Pisces (that’s me) are symbolized by two fish. Naturally, fish like water…lakes, oceans…and so do I.

My younger sister lives by the ocean in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Am I jealous? Maybe a little. (Thankfully I get to work right next to Lake Ontario everyday!) Sometimes I go visit her and we walk the beach at Point Pleasant Park, scouring the ground for shells, beach glass or any other trinkets we might find. This scavenging inspired a few pieces I’ve made, including a set of starfish cufflinks (below) and a seahorse pendant. I’m looking for ways to use the actual shells and sea glass we found in my pieces as well.

I am currently in the process of making a sea urchin ring that I am really excited about. Stay tuned for an update on how the making of that is going!

  1. Have you ever thought of incorporating seaweed into your designs? I feel like a seaweed-inspired ring would be really beautiful.
You’re making me want to go to the beach!

  2. Great blog! I definitely love how it’s easy on my eyes and also the info are well written. I am wondering how I can be notified whenever a new post has been made. I have subscribed to your rss feed which really should do the trick! Have a nice day!
